Sophie Ellis | Account Executive – Client Planning

One of MediaCom’s core values is ‘People First’, and we believe that by adopting this in everything we do will lead to better Results. In our Leeds office, it is definitely something we live by.

We’re one big team who look out for each other, get involved in our local community and love to spend time together. We take part in numerous charity events, volunteer for community projects and socialise together. This ultimately results in us being able to work effectively as a team and produce amazing work for our clients.

So when our social team got together to think about a summer away day we had a challenge on our hands. We’re a diverse bunch so it needed to be something that would suit everyone, and we believe in everyone being able to have a voice in the office. So we did a survey – and our survey said… GARDEN PARTY!

We chose a venue called The Potting Shed in the pretty Yorkshire market town of Bingley. After we’d spent the first 30 minutes admiring the beautiful setting we got down to some games, there was something for everyone with hula hoops, giant Connect Four and Jenga, as well as plenty of dancing! In traditional Yorkshire style the food included mini Yorkshire puddings and parkin.

What was a brilliant day soon came to an end, and as everyone started to leave we could see just how much everyone enjoyed themselves. The highlight of the day was clearly the games, as people showed their competitive streaks, giving everyone a few laughs but also showing their determination to succeed.

When organising events such as this for our colleagues, the social team in Leeds understands how important team building is to our roles at work. So the main aim for our summer away day was to provide the opportunity for the Leeds office to let their hair down and get together as a team – and we succeeded! Besides this, enabling everyone to be out of the everyday office environment and giving people time to relax together is a great way to refresh our minds so we can continue to be creative in our roles.

The 2018 summer social certainly set the bar high so we’ll look forward to what 2019 brings.
